Zithromax (azithromycin) is a macrolide antibiotic that fights bacteria in the body helping you to treat different kinds infection. It’s prescribed for ear infections, skin infections, tonsillitis, respiratory infections, pneumonias, strep throat and sexually transmitted diseases. Do not start taking Zithromax if you are allergic to its active ingredient, clarithromycin, erythromycin, troleandomycin, or telithromycin. Many medications have been reported to interact with Zithromax. It’s recommended to make a list of drugs you are currently taking so that your doctor could make sure taking Zithromax will be beneficial for you. Take Zithromax for as long as your doctor has recommended. Your symptoms may improve at the beginning of the treatment but this does not mean the infection has been completely treated.

The side effects of Zithromax are generally mild and usually go away on their own: dizziness, tiredness, mild nausea, vomiting, vaginal discharge or itching, diarrhea, constipation, stomach pain, nervous feeling, insomnia, ringing in your ears, decreased sense of taste or smell. Do not take Zithromax more often or in larger amounts that prescribed by your doctor. The period of treatment with Zithromax depends on your condition and the type of infection.
